Srinagar: J&K Schools Shut March 2–3 following multiple Pakistani drone intrusion attempts along the Line of Control (LoC), prompting authorities to suspend classes across the Kashmir Division as a precautionary measure.
Officials confirmed on Sunday that all government and private recognised schools in the region will remain closed for two days in view of the prevailing security situation. The decision was taken after early morning drone activity was detected along the LoC in the Poonch sector.
Official Order Issued by Directorate of School Education Kashmir
The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) issued a formal directive postponing the reopening of schools up to Grade 8, which were scheduled to resume on March 2 after the winter vacation.
“In the interest of administration and safety of students, it is hereby ordered that all Government and Private Recognised Schools of Kashmir Division shall remain closed on 2nd and 3rd March, 2026,” the official order stated.
Authorities clarified that the move is temporary and aimed at ensuring student safety amid heightened security vigilance.
Drone Intrusion Foiled in Poonch Sector
According to defence officials, personnel of the Indian Army detected two to three small quadcopters attempting to breach Indian airspace along the Line of Control early Sunday morning.
The intrusion attempt reportedly occurred between 5:45 am and 6:00 am in the Poonch sector. Surveillance systems quickly identified the movement, and the drones were neutralised before they could cause any damage or gather intelligence.
Officials stated that no casualties or material losses were reported. Security agencies have since intensified monitoring along vulnerable stretches of the border.
Security Tightened Across Kashmir Division
The decision that J&K Schools Shut March 2–3 comes amid increased alertness across Jammu and Kashmir. Border surveillance systems have been strengthened, and additional personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas.
Security officials indicated that drone-based reconnaissance attempts have become a recurring challenge along the LoC in recent years. Advanced detection systems and counter-drone measures are being used to prevent breaches.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with security advisories. Educational institutions have been advised to stay in contact with local administration for further instructions.
Rising Regional and Global Security Concerns
The local security developments come at a time when global tensions are also rising. The Middle East witnessed significant escalation following a reported joint military operation by the United States and Israel targeting Iran.
Media reports claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in airstrikes carried out on Saturday. Several members of his family were also reportedly killed during the operation.
However, independent confirmation from multiple international agencies remains awaited at the time of filing this report.
Iran Announces 40-Day Mourning
Following the reported death of Ayatollah Khamenei, Iranian authorities announced a 40-day public mourning period. In Shia Islamic tradition, the 40th day after death, known as Arba’een, carries deep religious and spiritual significance.
The developments have triggered widespread reactions across the region, with observers expressing concern over the possibility of further escalation.
Retaliatory Strikes Reported
In response to the airstrikes, Iran reportedly launched retaliatory strikes targeting several Gulf nations, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Regional authorities have heightened security protocols, and international observers are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.
While there is no official linkage between the Middle East developments and the drone intrusion attempts along the LoC, security experts note that geopolitical tensions often contribute to increased vigilance in sensitive border regions.
Schools Expected to Reopen After Review
Officials in Jammu and Kashmir indicated that a review of the situation will be conducted before schools resume normal functioning. If security conditions remain stable, classes are expected to restart after March 3.
Parents and students have been advised to follow official announcements issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir and district administrations.
The temporary closure underscores the administration’s priority to safeguard students amid uncertain security circumstances.
Continued Vigilance Along LoC
The Line of Control remains one of the most sensitive borders in the region. Drone-related incidents have increased in frequency over recent years, prompting enhanced surveillance measures, including radar systems and electronic countermeasures.
Security agencies reaffirmed their readiness to counter any future intrusion attempts. Officials emphasised that preventive steps such as the decision that J&K Schools Shut March 2–3 are taken purely as precautionary measures and do not indicate any immediate large-scale threat.
For now, normal civilian life continues across most parts of the Kashmir Division, though authorities remain on high alert.
Further updates are awaited as security agencies continue their assessment of the situation both along the LoC and in the broader regional context.
