Reasi, 02 May 2026: Reasi Police, under the supervision of SSP Reasi Sh. Mukund Tibrewal, IPS, have successfully cracked a cow lifting case reported in Katra.
On 30th March 2026, a CCTV footage went viral on social media wherein some unknown persons were seen attempting to lift a cow from Chintamani area of Katra in a Bolero vehicle bearing registration No. JK02AL-3700. Taking swift cognizance, Police Station Katra registered FIR No. 93/2026 under sections 303, 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, multiple raids were conducted at various suspected locations and technical as well as human intelligence was utilized to trace the accused persons. After sustained efforts, the vehicle involved in the commission of crime was successfully seized from Patnitop, District Ramban.
Further, two accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case, namely:
Mohd Basharat S/o Mohd Saleem R/o Kheri, Udhampur
Ashaq Mohd S/o Mohd Rafiq R/o Kheri, Udhampur
Further investigation is in progress to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the crime, who are presently absconding. Special teams have been constituted and efforts are underway to nab them at the earliest.
